What makes Rodger Duckworth's different?

Updated: Oct 10, 2023

Before my interview at Rodger Duckworth Physiotherapy, I did some brief research into what the company does and who they are in preparation. I made my own pre – assumptions into what kind of company it might be, oh boy was I wrong!

Everyone knows what physiotherapy is to some extent. That being; it helps to treat knee injuries, sore backs, and neck pain etc.

BUT… I remember Rodger mentioning to me in the first conversation on the phone how it is a physiotherapy AND wellness centre.

So, I wondered, what does the wellness part mean?

The first indication of this was the treatment of migraines and headaches that Rodger provides.

Everyone knows what physiotherapy is to some extent. So, I wondered, what does the wellness part mean?

Being a sufferer of migraines and headaches since the age of 7 I know how debilitating this condition can be. I was amazed to discover there is a physiotherapy treatment for it. I can’t help but think that if I would have known this when I was in my teenage years, when the migraines where at their peak, how beneficial to me it would have been.

Therefore, I was so keen to contribute to the awareness of this service, so that we can help people in this situation.

What I have learnt in the environment here has had no end. I learn something new every day.

For example, the impacts of trauma on the body, chronic pain issues and nervous system regulation.

When asking Rodger about this in the early stages of working here, he explained it to me like this – ‘When you feel shocked or receive some bad news unexpectedly, you do not feel it in your brain, you may feel as if you’ve been punched in the stomach, or that your breath has been taken away’. This personally was a light bulb moment for me. I realised the extent to which external factors, such as a traumatic event or stressful time has so much of an impact on our bodies.

I learn something new every day.

I see it as no coincidence that my IBS or migraines and headaches do not flare up when I am content and dealing with minimal stress.

I understand now that all the physios here do not just focus on ‘putting the fire out’ or providing the temporary fix. Instead, there is an emphasis on looking at the root cause of issues, whether this be trauma related or a long term Musculoskeletal incident.

The extensiveness of work is huge.

I see it as no coincidence that my IBS or migraines and headaches do not flare up when I am content and dealing with minimal stress.

Ranging from somatic therapy to TMJ/ jaw pain, patients are always surprised that we offer such service, and again adds to the emphasis of how we are not just physiotherapists.

If you are at a loose end in relation to any of the issues mentioned, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us to see if there’s opportunity for us to help you.
